Photographers

PhotographersMaren Hoopfer and John Hanson are "Photographers"; and yes, both of them are actually photographers. They have been playing music together since 2008 and released their first album in 2009. Hailing from Traverse City, they enjoy riding their bikes everywhere and love to garden and promote local food culture. Their other-worldly instrumentation includes guitar, ukulele, banjo, clarinet, glockenspiel and vibraphone, while both their voices whirl in harmony. The two returned to Michigan early this spring from a European tour playing performances in the United Kingdom and Germany. Listen to their music and view their visual arts at either Cashmere Clubhouse or their MySpace page.

Red Sea Pedestrians

Red Sea PedestriansThe Red Sea Pedestrians are a one-of-a-kind, full-blown, instrument-swapping fusion between tradition and the here-and-now. We're talkin' high-energy world-beat grooves, hypnotic laments from the earth, songs of celebration and wonder: a warped and beautiful blend of Klezmer, Greek, Gypsy, Celtic, Jazz and American Roots, all filtered through the band's original vision.

The Turnips

The Turnips are an eclectic roots rock band which has been molded and shaped from the Local Michigan Folk Scene. Featuring the songwriting of Joey Artibee, a Whitehall native who has been traveling Michigan for several years playing and writing, the Turnips bridge the gap between folk-rock and delta blues with a fine array of vintage instruments and soaring harmonies. This group is sure to please any age group with their originality and their one of a kind stage-presence.

This First Friday event was made possible through the generosity of the Olson Family Foundation, Utopian Marketplace, White Swan Inn, and A Finch Nest.
